What Plain Chess is
Plain Chess is an offline-first chess app for iPhone. The core app works without creating an account.
Information stored on your device
- saved game state;
- settings and preferences;
- remaining AI credit balance; and
- limited app state used for the review and feedback flow.
Optional AI Coach requests
If you choose to use AI Coach, the app sends only the information needed to answer your request to our backend.
- your question or prompt;
- the current board state, such as FEN and PGN;
- the legal move list;
- whose turn it is;
- move count; and
- whether the game is against the computer or another person on the same device.
Technical logs
Our AI Coach infrastructure may temporarily process limited technical metadata such as IP address, timestamps, and error logs needed to secure and operate the service.
Purchases
Paid downloads and optional AI credit purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive your full payment card number.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account for the core app.
- We do not serve third-party ads in the app.
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your games or prompts.
Data retention
Saved games and settings remain on your device until you remove the app or clear them through normal app use. AI Coach request data may be retained only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
